for Orchestra
Programme Note
Pyrodances is a lively, playful piece for orchestra. It is inspired by the imagery and characteristics of fireworks, with flares, vibrant colours and explosive climaxes. The piece begins with a series of loud chords reminiscent of the vivid “bangs” of an exploding firework. These chords repeat and change throughout the piece, permeating the texture and serving as a gateway to new sections and tonal areas. Each section explores the unique behaviours of different fireworks, with moments of intensity and excitement, but also a sense of wonder and anticipation that reflects their unpredictable and mesmerising nature.
